Over sixty five percent of the total population of Nasarawa state live in rural areas with limited internet access. The traditional libraries in Nasarawa State are grossly inadequate to cater for the growing reading population of the state. Most of the hard books are outdated and in limited quantity engendering low patronage.
It is against this background that the Nasarawa State Government established six Ultra- Modern e-libraries spread across the three senatorial districts of the state. These e-Libraries will promote digital learning, computer literacy and bridge the digital divide between the ‘haves and the have nots’ by providing affordable and efficient internet access to the general public. It will also provide world class information, academic and research materials to its citizenry.
To have an e-library that will cater for the digital need of the people of Nasarawa State. The e-libraries are designed to be self sustaining and easily accessible by people all across the state. The library will be an assemblage type with subscriptions to top book publishers, journals, premium academic database and high impact information materials.
Having considered various economic, suitability and functional factors, a fiber optic internet connectivity was chosen to provide broadband internet access to all the e-libraries.
The library will be open to the general public between 9am and 9pm from Monday to Friday and 9am to 4pm on Saturday. Library Patrons can access the digital content anywhere, 24hrs every day, provided they have internet connection and computer system or any other smart device. Patrons who choose to use the e-library facilities can also browse the internet, receive online courses and training and also borrow books from other libraries.
The e-libraries are situated in Lafia, Akwanga, Keffi, Karu, and Nasarawa.
